Katrina's image change creates problems for Rajneeti

On the sets of Rajneeti , Prakash Jha has had to deal with much more than temper tantrums. It took Jha a lot of time to explain the concept of continuity to the film’s lead actress Katrina Kaif.

It is said that Katrina’s role is fashioned after Sonia Gandhi. Thus, a lot of effort and styling has gone into deglamourising the usually sensual actress. She has to maintain a sari-clad look sans make up, which is far from the way she has been portrayed in her past films.

Our source said, “Katrina did not seem to understand the importance of continuity. Every other day, she would turn up on the sets looking completely different. Often, Jha would be surprised to see Katrina looking like a different person altogether. He had to summon her make-up man to get her look redone; to make it match the look in the last scene on the previous day.”

The funny bit is the fact that Katrina never seemed to realize this. She would simply say, “ Main to waisi hi lag rahi hoon, different nahin .”

Naturally, a lot of time was wasted while the make-up man worked on Katrina’s look. Jha denied the story saying, “What rubbish! Katrina’s character undergoes a metamorphosis in the film but I never had a continuity problem with her and didn’t lose any time either. She was perfect.”

Katrina, of course, echoed Prakash Jha’s statement.

Katrina Vs Aishwarya : Ash not amused at Kats -Barbie-snub

Looks like, our ‘cat eyed’ girl Aishwarya rai has had to cop another bite from her proverbial nemesis ‘Kat’.

Aishwarya rai has off late been at the receiving end of some reverses in endorsement stakes. And the person responsible for the green eyed beauty’s sudden commercial downturn is none other than the ‘hip-n-happening’ Katrina Kaif. After displacing her recently as the new face of ‘Nakshatra’, Katrina has reportedly bagged another endorsement pie at the expense of the former Miss Universe.

The global toy brand ‘Mattel’ has announced, in the light of their upcoming golden jubilee celebrations, that the latest series of world renowned ‘barbies’ from their stable will be designed after Katrina.

Following this rare honor, an ecstatic Katrina gushed, “I was flattered when I heard this news. I think this is the best way to get connected to the fans and kids.”

This latest series from the famous toy makers will hit the stores come December and Katrina understandably can’t wait for the day. “Every girl has grown up playing with Barbie dolls and so have I. And it feels great”, she adds.

However, Ash claims that she was the original choice for the honor but couldn’t give the dates owing to prior commitments.

Replying to a query at a press conference, the leggy beauty said, “I was asked by that brand (read: Barbie), not just now but I think since Miss World, then at the turn of millennium, then when my films were a raging success after Cannes and this year was the fourth time actually that I was requested by Barbie to walk the ramp on a particular day.”
Something’s burning?
Well, looks like the new Barbie has come to town and the old one is on her way out!

Review On Katrina Kaif Latest Film De Dana Dan

In an interview to a music station, Akshay Kumar, the hero of this film says: He’d been narrated this script thrice over, and still he didn’t quite get it. This, I suppose, is a good reason to sign up for a movie.

Akshay, it’s easy to tell, is an instinctual, comic actor. His career decisions should be no different. I’m certain he’d applied the same bases — “Eh, what’s this? Let’s do the film, for sure!” — when selecting scripts for his recent works: Blue, Kambakkht Ishq, Chandni Chowk To China et al.
Little surprise, the hero, midway through, disappears from the screen altogether. He probably couldn’t take it beyond a point. His character, a house-help, also can’t take his obnoxiously demanding boss (Archana Puran Singh). He and his friend (Sunil Shetty) kidnap her pet for ransom. The pet’s back home; Akshay, the servant, is considered abducted instead. This makes for a plot all right. It doesn’t even make for a fourth of this film.
Suddenly the action shifts entirely to other vignettes, an unrelated one after another. De Dana Dan, goes the background score. Your ears begin to roll. Deciphering the narrative becomes then a minor challenge at solving a math puzzle — with every permutation and combination possible.
Paresh Rawal, indisputably Gujarat’s top movie star, plays a Punjabi money-swindler “Chadha Saab” instead. Cops are chasing him. He’s chasing two brides and their fathers for his son’s dowry. All of Priyadarshan’s stock actors (Asrani, Rajpal Yadav, whoever available for a day or two) are seen chasing someone or the other. Merely the purposes interchange. Shakti Kapoor, as the sleazoid, is of course chasing a prostitute. Little will make sense, or is meant to. There is simply no recess from this excess.
The picture is the longest advertisement for a hotel called Pan Pacific, where the action and a random flood are set. The backdrop is Singapore where, like all Bollywood movies placed abroad, an Indian with impeccable Hindi materialises from every corner: waiters, cops, courier boys, TV reporters… The genre’s literally slapstick, so you stick it out as a character or the other gets slapped across their cheeks, often ducked into masala, mud or mud-cake.
Millions have endured (or loved) Priyadarshan’s previous hits (and flops) of a similar flow: Dhol, Bhaagam Bhaag, Garam Masala, Mere Baap Pehle Aap etc. Earlier this year, the director picked up a National Award for Kanchivaram: a warm, quiet, Left-leaning Tamil film about a silk-weaver and his family. Few, including me, have seen that one.
In another interview, this time to HT, Priyadarshan says, “Somewhere down the line I’ve realised that if critics like a film, it doesn’t work; and vice versa. I hope they hate De Dana Dan.” Well, we’ve certainly met our half of the deal. I guess, it’s for the public to meet their end of Priyadarshan’s promise.

DE DANA DAN - Minus Akshay, Katrina sexy number disappoints fans!!

The ardent fans of Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif who had gone to watch their latest flick ‘De Dana Dan’ were taken for the ride by the filmmaker as the sizzling hot sexy number featuring the above superstars was not shown in the film.
The fans, who had bought the tickets mainly on the basis of huge promotion of that sensuous scene-- saree -clad Katrina Kaif drenched under rain, while Akshay Kumar touching her sensuously-- waited patiently in the theatre for that scene, but it never came and the audiences felt cheated. Now, it has come to light that director Priyadarshan had decided to keep the hot number out of the flick for the first three- four days of release, and then include the hot number in the film.
The logic behind all this is said to be the feeling that during the weekend, the audiences would anyway go to theatres to watch the flick, and so the potentially attractive number should be kept for a later period.
The buzz doing the rounds in the industry is that Akshay Kumar-Katrina Kaif’s sizzling rain dance number (Gale lag ja….), which had been doing the rounds for all this while to promote the flick, can be viewed from Tuesday onwards. However, this step of the filmmaker has started a debate about the ethical side of the story, especially from the point of view of a viewer.
In fact, the fans, who had bought tickets to watch Akshay Kumar-Katrina Kaif sizzling chemistry on the screen in that rain song, were feeling cheated. They argue that they were first to patronize the film and so they should have been treated with more respect and not cheated by removing the song from the flick for first few days.
The industry analysts are of the view that this step amounts to shortsightedness on the part of filmmakers. It is possible that some hard core fans of Akshay-Katrina Kaif may return to watch the sizzling hot number in theatres, but majority will never come. And even in future they will be wary of visiting theatres for the same reason.
They point out that if Priyadarshan wanted to keep the sexy dance of Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif for later times, he should not have promoted the flick on that basis. There are numerous examples in bollywood when a song number had been added to attract the viewers at a later stage (remember ‘Amitabh Ko Bulao To Jane…’ number from Madhuri Dixit’s ‘Tezaab’, which was added after the movie became hit).
But it is for the first time in bollywood history that the main attraction of the flick is missing from the first day of its theatrical release(in this case Akshay-Katrina’s number ‘Gale Lag Ja’ missing from ‘De Dana Dan’ from day one).
