Akshay-Katrina Rain Song back in De Dana Dan

The inevitable has happened. Owing to popular demand, 'Gale Lag Ja' - the rain song and dance number featuring the lead pair of Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif - has been added to the film's narrative.

Though this much hyped song had created quite some buzz en route to the release of De Dana Dan, it was chopped off from the final copy of the print since it was adding to the film's length. However, the makers of De Dana Dan were open to the idea of incorporating the song as an added bonus if audiences demanded so and the film worked at the box office. With weekend collections being quite strong worldwide, the final call was taken around bringing back the song in the narrative.

Confirms Ratan Jain, producer of De Dana Dan, "We were clear that the song would be added only if the film did well at the box office. There was no point doing that if (God forbid) people wouldn't have been going into theatres. Now that the weekend collections are out, we know that there would be repeat audiences for the film. For them, it would be another incentive to watch the film again while for the first timers, it's an added bonus."

Since the film's running length is a little less than 3 hours already, would the incorporation of song be of any further impact?

"No", says Jain, "The length of De Dana Dan is still the same. To compensate for those 4-5 minutes of the added song, we have edited an equal duration of a few scenes from the film."

'Gale Lag Ja' would now appear in the first half of the film at the point when Akshay calls Katrina to the hotel in order to share the kidnapping plan and then run away with the ransom amount.

Meanwhile, Ratan Jain is ecstatic with the kind of collections that the film is showing with every passing day.

"Saturday and Sunday were far better than Friday while Monday was more or less similar to Friday, which is superb", he says, "Normally, films fall quite rapidly on Monday but we have stayed on very stable grounds. The collections are superb overseas as well, whether in UK, Gulf or elsewhere. In India, we have seen Rs. 23 crores coming in just from the weekend which is superb. All our distributors are very happy and we are all set for a bountiful first week."

Stars overhead automatically seem to align in their favour whenever Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif come together on the silver screen. From Namastey London to Blue, the duo has enthralled and enchanted the movie buffs with their unmatched chemistry.

Now, the Akshay-Katrina juggernaut rolls on further with this Friday’s release De Dana Dan.

“In the film my character is crazy about Katrina. But he’s poor and she’s rich. So he has to find ways to impress her. For this he even commits a crime which goes wrong…the film is a non-stop comedy,” Akshay said about the movie.

Incidentally, it was Akshay who got Katrina on board for this film. All Akki had to do was call Katrina and she immediately agreed to be his leading lady even though she doesn’t have a very substantial role in this multistarrer featuring Paresh Rawal, Sunil Shetty, Sameera Reddy and Neha Dhupia.

Katrina, who’s presently unable to promote the movie because of poor health, previously said: “I can’t say no to Akshay...I have immense respect for him.”

Akki, on his part, says he appreciates Katrina’s gesture and would gratefully tell her “thank you ji” when he meets her.

A lot has been said about the duo’s sensuous chemistry in a rain song in the film. But Akki has a different take on it. He says what people see as sexiness is nothing but pain because he had fever while shooting the song and Katrina too had sprained her back.

Katrina Kaif has denied reports of her turning producer with the remake of French film A LA FOLIE...PAS DU TOUT (He Loves Me...He Loves Me Not). She categorically states that she is happy with the way her acting career is going and has no plans of wearing a producer's hat in days to come.

"I have no clue from where did these rumours originate. It all seems to be coming out of thin air. There was never any indication by me in this regard", says Katrina who was also said to be in talks with Vipul Shah, the man who many believe is responsible for giving a new dimension to her career with NAMASTEY LONDON.

Apparently, for this film, Katrina Kaif was said to be playing the role of a young student who is in love with a married doctor. While she tries to make him leave his pregnant wife, he doesn't reciprocate accordingly. Then in a sudden twist of affairs, the movie is turned back to the beginning where the narrative changes. Now the film tells the story from the doctor's point of view which turns out to be entirely different.
"Well, sounds like an interesting story. However, any talks centered on production of this film or any other movie for that matter is plain speculation", says Katrina who is having a phenomenal 2009 with critical and commercial acclaim coming her way from both NEW YORK and AJAB PREM KI GHAZAB KAHANI.

She would next be seen in DE DANA DAN opposite Akshay Kumar. The Priyadarshan directed film arrives this Friday.
